College Basketball Takes Center Stage-Sports Talk With Anthony Bonelli

January means the start of conference play in college basketball. This year, conference play is a little bit more interesting, with so many schools in their first year in a new conference. Let’s start with the new Big East, which I believe will be one of the strongest conferences this year.this conference has all the Catholic schools from the old Big East and adds three powerhouses from two other conferences. Butler and Xavier who were formally a member of the Atlantic 10 and Creighton, who was in the Missouri Valley Conference last year. I am very impressed by Jay Wright and the Villanova Wildcats, there guard play has been tremendous so far, they are athletic and quick. My prediction is they will win thr conference, but I will also say anyone can beat anyone on a given night. I know that is set a lot, but with this conference it is so true.

The ACC is going to be the strongest and deepest conference this year. Syracuse, North Carolina, Duke, and Pittsburgh are going to be the top four teams in this conference. Syracuse will win the conference in their first year in it. They are the most complete and consistent team I’ve seen out of the conference.

The most underrated conference this year, is the American Athletic Conference. Houston, Memphis, and Connecticut are going to be the leaders in this conference. I believe Larry Brown and Houston are going to win this conference. They are a scrappy team, which is a staple of a Larry Brown team.
It should be a great rest of the season and I can’t wait until March, when the NCAA tournament starts, it will be a good one as always!
